Chesney loses his cherry

Chesney Battersby-Brown, according to the Daily Star, will lose his virginity to newcomer Kat Armstrong, Izzy's sister.

Coronation Street's Chesney, played by Sam Aston, will bed Kat in scenes to be screened in October. But he’s in for a tough time when Kat’s bad-tempered dad Owen finds out what he’s been up to with his youngest daughter. And Owen is not a man to be crossed – a fact that Chesney realises just days after his first sex session.

Is this REALLY necessary? The kids on Corrie start young don't they? It may be somewhat based on reality but this is one area where they go to far for me. I wonder if they will have Joshua involved with someone before the family leaves.

Oh and I find the title of the article rather vulgar.

I guess I'm just a prude.

Chesney's over 16 ...

I can't believe he's over 16 now!!! I've watched him grow up!
I actually think it's quite realistic that the teenagers on Corrie become sexually active. That's what most teenagers do at some point. It would be weird if they weren't! Or at least talking and thinking about it! Doesn't anyone remember being a teenager?

As Flaming Nora said, he's 16..nothing more too it.

What other storyline could they give to Chesney, who's been quietly growing up all this time? David's the bad lad on the street so with the introduction of Izzy's family and Chesney a young man who makes his own decisions, it makes sense.

Don't you think the Corrie producers are a little bit obsessive about teenage sex?
Is this something we really need to watch?

There's something a bit dodgy about Corrie's sex obsession these days - as though few other types of storyline existed.

Lazy scripting and very distasteful. This show is shedding IQ points by the sackload as it aims itself at an ever younger and less educated audience.

I think Qualityfirstplease you answered your first question with your last sentence.

Shedding IQ points and aiming itself at an ever younger and less educated audience is, as the producers have been known to say by way of explaining some of their storylines, "mirrors real life".

Sex sells, and violence, it's not my thing either, but apparently this is what the majority of viewers want in a soap.

By the way, it's only been the last decade or so since I conceded that Corrie is a "Soap", in the American style.
Before that, I was proud to say that it was a social drama, with excellent character actors living everyday lives.
The world has changed, and so has 'the street', I think that Corrie's majority of well trained actors has kept me watching, also the characters still from the early days have provided some much needed balance.

Chesney has been portrayed as a respectful character, with the usual realistic human flaws from time to time. Sexuality is part of life, and I think this storyline will probably be sweet.

Despite all the silly affairs among the grownups, Corrie doesn't portray sex in a "lewd" way onscreen, I think it's important that teens be able to talk about this issue, rather than sweep it under the carpet. My teen years were so oppressive about sex, which only caused confusion and some less than sweet encounters. Sexuality is much more repressed in the US and I don't think Corrie could ever look like a US soap.
